‘Small Gestures, Big System’: an exhibition about the consulting room of the future

March 28, 2025

What does a hospital actually sound like? And if you get to choose, would you rather talk to a doctor in a consulting room or during a walk in the park? These are questions the exhibition ‘Small Gestures, Big System’ asks you starting March 28 at ArtEra, the gallery in Education Center Ec-2.

In ‘Small Gestures, Big System, propositions for the current healthcare system’ artists and designers explore new perspectives together with doctors and researchers. Because how do we address healthcare challenges such as staff shortages and rising costs? And what can technology do for us in that regard?

Artists, researchers and doctors

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between artists, designers, researchers and doctors during ArtEra’s Summer School with the theme ‘The consulting room of the future’. During the Summer School, fifteen students and young professionals teamed up with artists and designers to work with information from scientists at Erasmus MC, TU Delft and Erasmus University Rotterdam.

The artist that worked on ‘Small Gestures, Big System’ are ALTR Collective (Elissa Assaf and Aya Saleh), Clémentine Schmidt, Colette Aliman, Radical Data (Jo Kroese and Rayén Jara Mitrovich), Phoebe Hotopf, Bethan Burnside, and Karenina van den Crommenacker.
